In this period of fashion, fuller skirts and more feminine styles come to light. One new popular look was the New Look silhouette. This type of dress typically included longer skirts that were full or fitted. The waist line and shoulder lines were often emphasized. In 1958 the egg type silhouette began to appear and become popular. During this time period jewelry became more popular, more specifically pearls. Pearls became a great accessory to many womens outfits. For men khaki pants became very popular and very comfortable. Plaid also came in style during this time.

Maternity fashion came in to play during this time. In the 1950s the very first woman to show her pregnancy of television was Lucille Ball. When she did this it brought a lot of attention to maternity wear. There was also the baby boom to consider as well. In this era maternity panty was created. These undergarments allowed a stretchy material to fit loosely over the stomach and help to add comfort. There was many different designs of maternity clothes that were released in this era. Loose tops and loose skirts were also very popular. During the baby boom, childrens clothing also became in high demand. Jeans became present and many school children were wearing jeans to school. The poodle skirt became very popular in this era.

Teenagers influenced fashion a lot in the 1950s. Teenagers were often influenced by television and the rock and roll craze that swept the world. Leather jackets and black turtlenecks became very popular in this era. Skirts and dresses became more tight fitting. Many men went with the greased back look for their hair. Women typically had a shorter hairstyle that was curled. Sunglasses, and berets also made a extreme fashion statement in this era. The men that did not go with the wet hairstyle often went with the short military haircuts that were very popular at this time.
